Mummy
The Mummy lies in the sand of the Desert as if it were just another body the wind had half buried, wrapped head to foot in old linen gone brown with age, its eyes a dull ember in the gaps between the bandages. It is not dead, or not dead enough. Come near, and it gets up.
Behavior
A Mummy lies still on its back, taking no notice of anything, until a traveler comes close or something strikes it. Then it heaves itself up off the ground, and every other one lying with it gets up a moment later, the first of them letting out a long, low moan.
Once up, it lumbers after you with a heavy, hunched gait and fights with its bare hands: a great swipe of both arms that takes a long time to come and lands hard when it does, or a short punch thrown with little warning. Nothing you hit it with will stagger it, so a blow already on its way cannot be cut short.
A Mummy does not follow you far. Leave it behind and it walks back to the place it lay, lies down again and waits for the next traveler.
Location
The Mummy is found only in the Desert. Some lie in the dry wash not far from the portal, where the first travelers to come through meet them, more lie in packs among the broken walls and columns of the old temple, and one last pack lies below the altar on the way up to the throne.
Strategy
- Not every body in the sand is scenery. Hover over one to see whether it is waiting to get up.
- A whole pack gets up together, so take the packs one at a time rather than walking from one straight into the next.
- Its gait is slow enough to walk away from, which lets you choose where to fight, and turning back to strike while it is still coming round is the safest way to land a blow.
- Watch for the arms drawing back: that is the swipe on its way, and the moment to step out of reach. The punch gives no such warning, so do not linger within reach between swipes.
- Every blow lands on it, even while it lies on the ground, so a heavy opening strike on a sleeping Mummy is never wasted.
