Simple Shield
The Simple Shield is the off-hand item a Chevalier starts with, and a shield is what lets a Chevalier block at all. It is a core part of the sword-and-shield style.
Usage
Equipping the Simple Shield grants block chance, which grows with the shield's item level. A blocked hit deals no damage and does not make the Chevalier flinch, so it never cuts a cast short. That makes a meaningful difference against an early enemy like the Goblin Underling or the Goblin Archer.
Without a shield in the off-hand, a Chevalier blocks nothing, whatever else grants block chance.
Only the Chevalier class can equip shields. The two-handed Greatsword occupies both weapon slots, leaving a Vanguard no room for an off-hand item.
How to Obtain
- Starting equipment: Every new Chevalier begins with a Simple Shield.
- Merchant: The Merchant may carry this shield.
Tips
- A shield that drops once you are a higher level blocks more often, since its block chance grows with its item level.
- Block chance from the passive tree adds to the shield's, and counts only while a shield is equipped.
