Merchant
The Merchant is a shopkeeper stationed at the hideout, the sheltered spot every character begins in. He stocks a rotating selection of weapons, armor, and accessories, making him the primary source of equipment upgrades for adventurers who have outgrown their starting gear.
Interaction
Walk up to the Merchant to open a trade. He greets players with:
"Well met, traveler. Browse my wares, I've got steel for the bold and shields for the wise."
Inventory
The Merchant carries a rotating stock, drawn at random from the following weapons and armor:
Weapons
Shields
Armor
- Simple Shirt, Simple Pants
- Simple Helmet, Simple Gloves
- Crude Helmet
- Leather Jacket, Leggings
- Strapped Boots, Riding Boots
Accessories
His stock is randomized, so the exact selection of items will vary. Check back if you don't find what you're looking for.
Location
The Merchant is stationary and stands in the upper left of the hideout, a short walk from where a character appears. Nothing has to be explored to reach him: the hideout is where every character starts, and where a free revive returns you after a death, so his stock is available at the beginning of a run and again after every trip that ends badly.
Tips
- Visit the Merchant before setting out; he is on the way to the portal, not a detour.
- The Ornate Shield and Leather Jacket are strong defensive upgrades.
- His stock rotates, so look again on the way back through.
- The Merchant is the only shop in the current game, so make the most of his wares.
